Doctorlink Shortlisted for Health Service Journal Award

9 November 2019 – Doctorlink online Symptom Assessment recognised for digitising patient access while cutting costs and workload for GPs

Doctorlink is shortlisted at this year’s prestigious Health Service Journal (HSJ) Awards for transforming patient access to primary care and reducing the demand on GP appointments by one fifth.

Following a drive from NHS England to digitise patient services, Doctorlink has been shortlisted in the ‘Driving Efficiency Through Technology’ category, open to NHS suppliers and healthcare organisations. The HSJ judging panel, made up of highly influential and respected figures within the healthcare community, praised online System Assessment provider Doctorlink for their work in improving the efficiency and quality of healthcare services.

Providing 24-hour access to healthcare, Doctorlink is the leading provider of online Symptom Assessment to the NHS. As well as the clinically approved Symptom Assessment, the Doctorlink app helps practices by guiding patients to local services – redirecting 22% – and managing appointment bookings and repeat prescriptions. Results show a 35% reduction in the need for same day appointments. Analysis shows that a 20% uptake in a Practice with 7,000-patients reduces overall GP workload by 579-hours per year.

Portland Medical Centre (PMC), a leading practice using Doctorlink in Croydon, London, is also shortlisted for the ‘Digitising Patient Services Initiative’ award for its successful implementation of the Doctorlink platform. Since PMC’s roll out of Doctorlink in October 2018, nearly a third of patients have registered for the service, and 23% have been re-routed to alternative care options such as pharmacy. Over 40% of patients have accessed clinical advice outside of standard opening hours, alleviating strains on the time and resource of clinicians. The practice is seeing a 30% reduction in phone calls every week.

Rupert Spiegelberg, CEO Doctorlink, commented: “By digitising patient services, we are helping GP practices to improve efficiencies, increase accessibility to healthcare, and ultimately save costs. Doctorlink is proud to be spearheading this transformation and making a tangible impact for patients through collaborative partnerships with medical practitioners such as the Portland Medical Centre.”

Doctorlink has recently been selected for the GP IT Futures Framework and has been implemented across seven NHS STPs, covering more than 1,000 GP practices to date.  It is accessible to 9 million patients in England.

The most coveted accolade in UK healthcare, the HSJ awards is the largest annual benchmarking and recognition programme for the health sector. Over the last 39 years the awards have been celebrating healthcare excellence through huge political, technological and financial challenges within the sector.

The HSJ Awards take place on 6th November 2019 at Battersea Evolution, London.
